There's just something about springtime that can get hectic. The temperature warms up and we want to be outside enjoying instead of completing tasks at home or in the office. The college semester is wrapping up, and it seems that ever course has large term papers and projects. There's hustle and bustle over getting kids set for summer activities and scheduling family trips.
How does this relate to health and fitness??
Well, often times, the first thing we do when we get busy is cut a workout out of our day. We say, "today is just too busy...I'll get to the gym tomorrow." Tomorrow is even more hectic. Then before we know it, we've skipped the gym for a week and find ourselves eating a bag of flaming hot cheetos while the pizza cooks (( oops, that's me again lol ))
So what are we to do??
I highly suggest you slow down to speed up! If you want to knock things off your to-do list, if you want to spend more free time doing what you love, if you simply want to feel less stressed,
Slow Down to Speed Up Exercise:
Phase 1 - Slow Down
(1) Find a comfortable, quiet place in your home
(2) For 10 minutes, sit in complete silence and stillness ((the stillness is very important))
(3) Focus on your breath - take deep inhalations and feel the breath move through you
(4) If you feel your mind wandering, bring your attention back to your breath
Our minds are constantly "on" and unless we learn to slow down, pull back, and recharge, we will never be able to get ahead. This is something that you must experience and practice to know the benefit! Simply try it for a few minutes and very soon, you will realize the immense impact it has on your ability to let go of the overwhelm!
Phase 2 - Speed Up
(1) After the 10 minutes is complete, get out a pad of paper & a pen
(2) Write down 2 goals that are very specific: one for fitness and one for nutrition
(3) Instead of finding excuses, write down 3 reasons why it's important for you to stick to healthy living, especially when you're busy
(4) Write down something you can do today or tomorrow to bring you one step closer to reaching each of your goals
(5) Write down a mantra that you can use this week to remind you of your goals ((This week, my manta is: "Inhale love, exhale gratitude"))
Because you've taken a few moments to slow down, you'll find yourself clearer and more focused. Take advantage of this time! Always come back to your silence and stillness when you need that push forward!
Look at it this way. When life get hectic, the most important thing is that you feel great and feel you can handle it. What can you do to feel your best? Well, I know a few things that can help you feel amazing, and you know where I'm going with this. When you're most stressed, it becomes even more important that you're working out daily to feel the surge of endorphins energize you. It's essential that you're nourishing your body with healthy food items to repair and protect. You owe it to yourself to feel great, especially when life gets crazy!
