It's changed quite a bit over the years... mostly by getting smaller.
Not that we're complaining.
A lot of the ones in the 70's and 80's were skimpier. Women would actually walk around in their bikinis. In the 90's they started getting more modest and started putting wraps around their waists when not tanning or going in the water. I'm not sure about now as I haven't been to the beach in at least 10 years.
Always hated the beach, I'm not sure why getting sand in your swimsuit, sunburns and swimming in churning water awash with fish semen and bacteria is fun. Especially since you can't drink, run around, have camp fires, &c in so many of them.
