Make Goals, Not Resolutions, This Year

A new year is a great time to make healthy changes. Don’t  wait until the new year to make any changes, begin today! Before we look to the future, take a quick look at the past year and celebrate your successes.

What successes have you had this year (big, small, or in between!)?
Maybe you…    planted some lettuce
… were active as a family
… tried a new food or recipe from Eat Smart
         … visited the farmers’ market
         … had a screen-free night at home

Now, with a pat on the back, we look to the future!

Set goals, not resolutions.

  1. Make it an easy win. Be realistic, specific, and focus on one thing at a time.
“I will eat a salad twice a week.”
“My family and I will try a new fruit or vegetable on the first Friday of the month.”
(Like some of these…sweet potato fries, crunchy kale chips , fruit and spring greens salad)
  2. Turn those negatives to a positive. Add something to your life!
    No more “I will not…” or “I won’t..,” instead…
“I will go for a walk every Friday.”
“We will eat one piece of fruit a day.”
  3. Be kind. Creating habits takes time. Some days are harder than others. Failures will happen, but so will many successes.
  4. Tell others. Ask others to join you in your adventure – family, friends, social media!
